Customer Responsibility for Receiving Freight
Hardwood Specialties is not
responsible for truck freight damage or FedEx ground damage.
It is not our policy to ship damaged goods. Every piece is assembled
and inspected prior to shipping from our facility. Please
follow the recommended procedures listed below for receiving
freight.
A:
Count the freight at the time of arrival.
We cannot stress enough the importance of counting and checking the
freight at time of delivery. For your convenience, we write the
total number of boxes contained in the shipment on the Packing List.
CHECK THIS INFORMATION BEFORE SIGNING DELIVERY RECEIPT.
Make sure each box is addressed to you. If there is a shortage, it
must be noted on the delivery receipt in order to get reimbursement.
Once the delivery receipt is signed and accepted by you, the
freight company and Hardwood Specialties considers it a complete,
free and clear delivery.
B: Inspect the freight at time of arrival.
We understand that you may be busy at the time of delivery, but it
is imperative that you open and inspect the contents of each box
immediately, and
REFUSE ALL DAMAGED MERCHANDISE. If the damaged
merchandise is refused at time of delivery, you do not need a
freight claim. just let us know what was refused and fax us a copy
of the delivery receipt that shows you refused the items due to
damage and we will replace those items on your next order at no
charge, and
WE WILL FILE THE
FREIGHT CLAIM.
If damaged items
are not refused on delivery and are accepted by you, it is then
your responsibility to file the freight claim with the delivering
carrier.
Customers who receive merchandise with broken arms, split or broken
rocker runners, cracked or broken legs, stretchers, or chair backs
must be aware that this is freight damage. Sometimes it's easier to fix the item rather than to fight with
the carrier, so if you need some repair parts, they are available to
you at no charge.
C: FedEx Ground shipments
- We will ship
only
at your risk! FedEx ground has
proven to be inadequate as a furniture carrier. Items are often
damaged in the process. Also, most boxes are oversized and FedEx
charges the 70 pound rate for items that weigh less, which end up to
be a costly shipping method.
Thirty day policy: You have 30 days from the date of receipt to
report any defects in workmanship to Hardwood Specialties!
Splits
Splits occur in solid wood furniture. Chairs, tables, and buffets are susceptible to small crack, especially in winter when humidity levels in the heated air drops lower than the level in the wood. The wood will shrink and split where the least resistance is, usually at the glue joint.
A perfect glue joint, in properly dried wood, should not split. In the low and medium price range domestic and imported chairs, splits are inevitable at times. Small splits in the seats are not manufacturer's defect. The small splits can be filled with the proper wood patch or filler.
Return Policy
Authorization is required if you must return an item. Please call or fax our office for authorization. Freight damaged items, (merchandise with broken arms, split or broken rocker runners, cracked or broken legs and stretchers, cracked or broken chair backs) are not returnable. Please check your shipment carefully and report damage to the driver or your local terminal immediately.
